On December 31st 2019, the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan China was closed after doctors suggested it as the commonality between different anonymous cases of chronic pneumonia across the country. Since the first case was diagnosed in 2019, there have been over 168 million cases of Covid-19 infections which has resulted in 3.5 deaths world-wide with American suffering a huge blow of over 592 thousand deaths.
Soon after the infection began to become a global problem, the WHO sent a team of 17 scientist to investigate the origin of the virus in China. However, before that, Former President Donald Trump spearheaded the claims that the virus was man made and was intentionally released from a lab, the culprit being the Wuhan Institute of Virology Laboratory in China. The former president however provided no evidence whatsoever to support his claims and this led to it encountering several responses.
A lot of people felt the Former President was rushing to a conclusion because of the tensions that had been rising between China and America in the preceding months. Others said the President was simply trying to shift blame and not man-up to reality as his inactions caused America to be hit quite heavily by the pandemic.
However, with recent happenings, tables seemed to have turned and Trump’s theories seems to be a matter of urgent concern ever since when The Wall Street Journal reported on a U.S Intelligence report citing researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were hospitalized with unspecified illness in November 2019. Could Trump have been right all along?
Shots were immediately fired by the Chinese government as their spokesperson called this claims a ‘politicking of the virus’. Indeed, there seems to be some untold air surrounding China’s interaction with the US government.
President Biden has called for a re-opening of investigations into the possibility of the virus being man made. President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that he is ordering U.S. intelligence agencies to “redouble their efforts” to investigate the origins of COVID-19, including “specific questions for China.”
The US is joining a world-wide movement to pressurize China into talking and here are some of the reasons why:
- Scientists are disappointed with the amount of investigative data that was released in the reports of the WHO researchers in Wuhan saying it is not thorough enough. In a medical publication, they expressed their feelings and called for the WHO to provide better findings and conduct deeper research.
- Reported claims by researchers that China seems to be hoarding information:
Several complaints were lodge by various scientists and researchers that the Chinese government was preventing them from gaining access to information that could be helpful in combating the virus. Not only are they hoarding information, but they also released false information as regards the virus.
- Pressure from the Republicans:
Several staff under the Biden administration have been under a lot of pressure by republicans to revisit the claims that the virus might be man-made.
Trump in an interview with NewsMax on Tuesday, said that he had always been sure that the virus was man made and that the claim was independent of whatever tension was between his government and the Chinese government as at that time. He also talked about how his foresight of the entire situation afforded him the opportunity to make swift decisions long before somethings posed any threat at all. He praised himself for investing billions of dollars into the research, development and mass production of Vaccines saying it was the “best bet ever made’’ and that it put America way ahead of other counties as well as possibly saving the lives of Tens of millions of people around the world.
His actions might have seemed haphazard at the time, but one cannot deny that America’s swift recovery from the claws of the pandemic was greatly because of the raze decisions Former President Trump took several months earlier. From border restrictions to strict immigration procedures, Trump’s foresight has proven to be that magical wand that America would eventually need in desperate times.
However, could his foresight again prove itself right as regards the Origin of the virus?
