Afghan mothers has been passing on their babies to foreign troops over barbed wire at Kabul airport in the last few days. Those photos demonstrated the desperation of Afghan people to flee the Taliban rule.
The U.S. Marines seen carrying the baby were with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Marine spokesman Maj. Jim Stenger told Marine Corps Times Friday. They were the first U.S. troops on the ground, sent in to secure the airport to help evacuate U.S. citizens and at-risk Afghans from the country.
“The baby seen in the video was taken to a medical treatment facility on site and cared for by medical professionals,” Stenger said in an email. “I can confirm the baby was reunited with their father and is safe at the airport. This is a true example of the professionalism of the Marines on site, who are making quick decisions in a dynamic situation in support of evacuation operations.”
Reports quoted a British officer saying that the mothers were desperate and were being beaten by the Taliban. British secretary of defence, Ben Wallace, said that no child will be taken out of Afghanistan without their parents.
The chaos & fear of people is a testament to the international community’s role in AFG’s downfall & their subsequent abandonment of Afghan people. The future for AFG has bn decided for its people without its people’s vote & now they live at the mercy of a terrorist group. #Kabul pic.twitter.com/k4bevc2eHE
