Retold From The Bible
IN the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. But it came to pass in time that men no more obeyed God. They did wickedly one to another. And there came a great flood of waters covering all the ground to wash the earth clean again of all that was not good. But Noah was good above all men; so God spake unto Noah to save him from the flood.
And God said unto Noah: “Make thee an ark of wood that will float upon the waters, and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark to keep them alive with thee,”
And Noah did according unto all that, commanded him. He builded the ark and went into it, he, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. Of beasts, and birds, and every creeping thing there went in unto Noah two of every sort.
And it came to pass after seven days, that the windows of heaven were opened and the rain came down on the earth. For forty days and forty nights the rain was upon the earth. And the floods bare up the ark and it floated on the face of the waters. All the high hills were covered and the mountains were covered with water.
Noah, only, remained alive and they that were with him in the ark. And the waters lasted an hundred-and-fifty days. But God remembered Noah and made a wind to pass over the earth so the waters rose no more. Then the ark came to rest on a mountain and the waters began to go down till the tops of the mountains were seen.
And after forty days, Noah opened the window of the ark and he sent forth a raven and a dove to see if the waters were gone from covering the face of the ground. But the dove found no place to rest, for the waters were u still on the earth, and she returned unto Noah.
And Noah stayed yet another seven days; and again he sent forth the dove. And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, in her mouth was an olive leaf that she had plucked from a tree. So Noah knew the waters had sunk down below the treetops. And he stayed yet another seven days and sent forth the dove once more. And the dove returned not again; for the waters were gone from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry.
And God spake unto Noah, saying, “Go forth out of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives, and every living thing that is with thee!”
And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him. And every beast, every bird, and every creeping thing that was with him went forth out of the ark.
And Noah offered thanks unto God because God had saved them from the flood. And God blessed Noah and He set the rainbow in the sky to be an everlasting sign that His mercy and loving-kindness should last forever to men. And God said unto Noah: “I do set my bow in the cloud. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud. And I will remember my promise which is between me and you and every living creature that the waters shall no more come as a flood to cover the earth.”
