To live a rewarding life is not easy and certainly no one can guarantee you anything. But it is possible that when you have the right attitude, you’re determined to go in a certain direction and do all the efforts that you are able to do, results will begin to show.
Before I talk to you about the 10 harsh truths people usually ignore, let me share with you a short story that impressed and reminded me that each of us has the freedom to choose what meaning to give to the things that happen in our lives:
“This afternoon, my teammate broke his right arm during the first game of the season. In fact it was his first match for more than two years after doctors told him he would not play again because of the knee operation. The same day I stopped to see how he feels and I assumed he would be very upset. Instead, he smiled and told me: ‘The hour I spent on the field, at one point was only a dream’”.
With this in mind, here are 10 harsh truths that I hope will wake you up and will motivate you to make some changes in your life:
1. Nobody else can give you the exact answers you need in order to be happy
There are many questions that only you can answer through experience and self-reflection. So stop listen to others that tell you what you should want. Turn your attention inwards. When you’re in the midst of turmoil and chaos, take a step back and you will notice that, if you listen to yourself carefully, you’ll know which is the best decision for you to make.
2. The unhappiest people are those who care the most about what others think
If you think about it, you have nothing to prove and there are many things you can do. Let other people’s opinion inform you. Avoid letting them limit you.
3. The people with whom you surround yourself will help you rise or fall
Make it a habit to surround yourself with people who think constructively and who influence you in a positive way. Let them be that subtle element that continually reminds you to be the best version of yourself.
4. Comfort is the number one dream killer
Eventually you can be comfortable or brave, but not both at the same time.
5. We all make choices but ultimately they define who we are
Between what took place and what will happen is what you choose. You are not a product of the circumstances you’re in, but a product of the decisions you take. That means to avoid letting your fears decide your future.
6. The only connection between wanting something and getting something is to do something
There is no shortcut, magic pill or formula for success. You will have to act deliberately and focus on the things you do.

7. If success would not have a price, then it would mean nothing
You have to pay a price. Get to work and enjoy the results. It is far better to be exhausted after a day’s work for something meaningful, than being tired doing almost nothing. Make sure you invest time and energy in what matters to you.
8. Problems are a part of every success story
Life becomes more generous as it becomes increasingly demanding. If you have problems, it’s a good thing. It means that you’re making progress. It means that you’re learning and growing. The only people who don’t have problems are those who are doing nothing.
9. In life, what you want and what you get, rarely coincide
Eventually, after you have done everything you could do, what has to happen will happen and what should not happen will not happen. Remember that the most precious gift life can offer you, might not be wrapped as you would expect.
10. Life changes constantly and often in unpredictable ways
Yes, life is changing and you can do the same. If you are pulled in all directions by forces you cannot control, take a break, breathe deeply two or three times and realign yourself with what is most important to you. It is important to have the courage to make that change when you need to, to have the power to go ahead with it, and to rest assured that everything will be exactly as it should be.
Conclusions
Sometimes life is tough. There are many things that you simply cannot control and must be left to flow naturally. Avoid letting the things that are out of your control to influence the things you can change. Focus your attention on those important steps that you can make today and make them!
You don’t know exactly what lies beyond the horizon but this is what makes the trip more interesting. That’s what makes today the most important day of your life. So, make it count!
